“Noosa Everglade Canoe Safari”

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your comments guys – nice to hear from you    :o )

After catching a bus up from Brisbane to Noosa Heads,

Noosa Heads beach

Noosa Heads beach

I was picked up with another 8 people and whisked off to Gagaju Bushcamp for a canoe trip. It was a pretty basic camp, but very nice. Hung around with a nice crowd – and I’ve been introduced into the world of ‘Goon’. ‘Goon” is any 4-litre box of wine that costs $10-15, and it’s the Aborigine word for pillow (from the silver bag inside), and as you might expect – its not that tasty! The canoe trip was great, me and Lynn kicked ass, we were easily ahead of the rest. We went to a beach, were me and John got battered trying to body surf fome insane waves, and on the way back we had to re-cross a large lake and the wind picked up! It was all we could do to get to an island for a rest, but one canoe got blown backwards so far that they got lost and had to knock on someone’s door for help (a guy gave them a lift home, we had to paddle!)

Yesterday we headed up river, which was lined on both sides by wild bush which was very pretty. After stopping up a little creek for some lunch and a swim (34 degrees!) we paddled over to a camp spot and went to the pub for dinner, before drinking Goon on the beach under the stars!

I haven’t seen a kangaroo or koala yet, but have seen a giant lizard, kookaburras, sea eagles and an eagle plucking a fish out of the water about 10 meters away – which was fantastic! I’ve had to say goodbye to my new friends today and set up in a YHA hostel in Noosa itself, but I’m going to ring a local guy called Gavin – I must have stared long enough at the map/tourist board for him to take pity on me as he pointed me in the right direction and invited me to join him and his friends tommorow. I also want to do some surfing and sea kyaking tommorow – I’ll let you know how that goes!

Hello,

Just coming over Indonesia/Papua New Guinea

Just coming over Indonesia/Papua New Guinea

Well I have finally arrived in Brisbane! The plane touched down exactly 38 hours after I stepped out of my front door, which is pretty amazing really, and extremely tiring. The flights were non-eventfull really, just really long. Since arriving I’ve been wandering around aimlessly (smiling like an idiot for the most part), watching some street disco/tap-dancing act, mastering the art of crossing the intersections and I’ve bought a Crocodile Dundee hat on impulse which I’m sure I’ll be too embarassed to actually wear! :o )

Its mercifully cloudy at the moment, although I did have a dip in the pool at 11 or so this morning as it sure is hot when the suns out!

I’ll be sure to post again soon when I actually get up to something interesting, cheers for now  x

Me on the beach in Ynyslas, Wales

On the beach in Ynyslas, Wales

Hello family and friends!

As most of you will know, I’m just getting ready for an 8 month adventure to Australia and SE Asia! I’m setting off on September 23rd, and aim to be back around half past April. :o )

Joes built me this site so that I can post updates on where I am, what I’ve been up to and upload a photo or two when I stop by an internet cafe.

Im hoping to travel up and down the Sunshine Coast of Australia, sail from New Caledonia back to Aus, learn to scuba dive around the reefs of southern Thai islands, check out the temples of Cambodia, explore the Mekong delta in Vietnam, work my way up Vietnam from south to north, head into Laos and explore the jungles, mosie up the river to north Thailand and while away the rest of my time and money exploring the mountains…

At least, thats the plan… :o )

(You can see a map of where I’m planning to go on ‘The Rough Plan…’ page!)

Wish me luck!

(Please leave comments and messages to the posts and pictures – I’d love to hear from you and your news!)
